Clarice Risseeuw is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, where she explores the potential of Flavobacteria’s living colour to enhance human-microbe engagement and attentiveness towards the microbial world.

She obtained her bachelor’s and cum laude master’s degree from the same faculty. During her master’s graduation project, Clarice started working with Flavobacteria, characterizing and capturing the microorganism’s vivid structural colorations.

Seeing biodesign as the perfect way to combine her passions for design and nature, she joined Caradt’s Biobased Art and Design research group to continue her research. In 2022, she returned to Delft University of Technology as a PhD candidate within the Materials Experience Lab.
